Sonic Bungee jump

Late last month Chevrolet launched its new Sonic small car in Long Beach California with a bit of splash.

The stunt involved building a 25 metre tower from 40ft containers, a mobile crane and two large boom lifts helped make it happen. The attached video shows the construction of this tower in time lapse view.

Once built the Sonic was attached to a massive bungee cord and placed on top of the tower. You can imagine what happens next --- the car was rolled over the edge for its own auto bungee jump.

A bungee stunt without people

The planning behind the stunt was such that the car’s front bumper just ‘kissed’ the ground with a dunking in a paddling pool. Click here to see the video
The crane used from the stunt was supplied by Hill Crane Services of Long Beach, a long established family owned company that dates back to 1947.

Vertikal Comment

Does this fall under the FEM statement on no fun lifts by cranes? Or is it one of those that the authorities deem to be no construction related and therefore perfectly fine?
