Kaj Hofmann 1942-2011

We learnt yesterday that one of the pioneers of the Swedish rental and powered access industries, Kaj Hofmann past away last week after short illness, he was 69.

Hofmann was chief executive of Gothenburg (Göteborg) based Alvelins Uthyrnings along with his sister, Christina. He and his sister took the helm at Alvelins from their parents in the 1970s, the company itself dates back to 1946.

Alvelins was one of the first rental companies in Sweden to add self-propelled scissors lift to its access product range in 1975, prior to that it had been limited to scaffold and ladder rental. The concept took off and today Sweden is one of the most developed powered access markets in the world.

Hofmann leaves behind a wife, two daughters and several grandchildren, we hope to have more details and a full obituary later this week and will update this item when we do.
