The Peacock Bass men

Three veterans of the UK crane and aerial lift business have recently returned from a trip to the far reaches of the Amazon basin in their pursuit of fish.

The three keen anglers, Bill Green of PLC sales the outrigger mat specialist, Tony Mort of AJ Access and Jim Daintith of APS were looking for Peacock Bass this year and were not disappointed.

The trio spent a week during November in a lodge on the Agua Boa river, a protected tributary of the mighty Amazon. They caught many fish, far exceeding their expectations. The area requires barbless fishing and runs a catch and release policy. It is one of the few regions in the Amazon under permanent protection by IBAMA, the Brazilian Environmental Institute for the Protection of the Amazon and the governor of the state of Roraima.

“An added bonus,” said Green, “was the wildlife seen daily, including the giant Amazon otter, pink and grey dolphins, macaws and parrots, monkeys and caiman to four metres long, plus many other creatures too numerous to mention.”

We have been reporting on the annual fishing excursions of this intrepid group since 2006, as the ventured as far afield as Cuba and the Kola Peninsula in Northern Russia. The team is already planning the next trip, to where? Who knows watch this space!
