More Terex cranes for Bruns Schwerlast

German rental company Bruns Schwerlast has taken delivery of three new Terex cranes, a 40 tonne AC 40 City, an 80 tonne AC 80-2 and a 160 tonne AC 160-2.

The Magdeburg based company has locations in Hildesheim and Hanover runs a fleet of mobile cranes up to 500 tonnes, along with a heavy transport business. The crane fleet has largely been made up of Terex or Demag cranes since it moved into cranes in 1968 and then All Terrains in the 1980s. The company’s largest crane is a 700 tonner.

The AC40 City went straight out with an existing AC40 on a project to install an 8.5 tonne overhead crane. The cranes had to install the main beam within inches of the ceiling. The only alternative would have been to put the overhead bridge crane in place from outside, which would have made it necessary to remove the roof first.

“We equipped the two cranes with ‘runners’, which allowed us to perform the lift without hoist rope–that is, with the booms only. This way, we were able to lift the load to within inches of the ceiling, something that we could not have done with any other crane model,” said crane operator Dirk Lichter.

The two operators had first to lift the beam in a diagonal position so that it would fit through the opening between the rails and then carefully turn it until it was aligned with them.

“The fact that the cranes are user-friendly and easy to operate was of enormous value in this case, as it made it possible for our employees to position the overhead bridge crane with laser-like precision,” added Frank Bruns.
