Latvian rental company Arsava has taken delivery of the first Grove GMK6300L All Terrain crane in the Baltic states. The 300 tonne six axle crane is also the largest All-Terrain crane based in the region, and has already completed several projects.

To mark its arrival, Konekesko, the Grove distributor for the Baltic states held a launch party at its facility in Riga, with more than 200 people attending.

The launch party for the Grove GMK6300L in Riga

Since the launch, the crane has worked virtually non-stop and its project schedule for 2012 is already filling up. Its first job was on a wind farm in Venspils in northern Latvia. It then travelled to Tallinn, Estonia to work at a a power station, before returning to Latvia for a job at another power station. Later, the crane moved to Liepaja harbour in the west of Latvia, where it lifted boats from the water to prevent them from becoming trapped in ice over the winter months.

Arturs Maslovs, one of the two Arsava co-directors, said: “The crane has a great boom that is really useful for job sites like power stations, but it also showed excellent strength on the wind power and harbour jobs. To have that sort of range in a single crane means we expect it to be a busy worker.”

Aleksandrs Lukasuks, the other director, added: “We are receiving a growing numbers of inquiries for this crane, and several customers have already seen it working on other projects. Our outlook for the GMK6300L is good, and not only in the Baltic region, but across Scandinavia.”

Edgars Mednis, product manager at Konekesko, had the final word: “We’ve had good success with Grove’s 35 t to 55 t units in Latvia, and the cranes have established a solid reputation. Although the GMK6300L is larger than anything we’ve sold before, the customer had no hesitation in placing the order thanks to its outstanding characteristics.”
