Barge tips as crane is loaded

A small jack up barge overturned on Friday as it tried to load a crane on board at Liberty Island in New York harbour.

The crane, which is now lying on the bottom of the Hudson River, is reported to be a 60 ton construction crane, thought to be a 60 ton Rough Terrain.

The scene on Friday

The barge, the Katherine G, which typically transports supplies to and from the island, was inexplicably attempting to load the crane without having deployed its stabilisers, specifically intended for the purpose.

Three of the crew were rescued by the same New York Waterway ferry that came to the aid of the airliner that ditched into the river a few years back.

The yanks aint having much luck with cranes this year. Is this due to a lack of training?? a lack of safety or just plane stupidity??
