Delivery driver crushed

A delivery driver has died after he was crushed between a scissor lift and a forklift this morning at a site in Preston, Melbourne, Australia.

The man, said to be in his 30s, was delivering both machines to the site of a new store, during the early hours of the morning when the incident occurred. He was unloading the two from the back of a tilt-back flat bed and was apparently crushed between the two machines.

He was not discovered until sometime later when staff working on a new Masters Home Improvement store began to arrive. The emergency services were called, but the man had already succumbed to his injuries.

WorkSafe’s spokesman Michael Birt said: “Investigators are at the store, which is due to open later this month, trying to determine the circumstances of the accident. How and why this has happened we don’t know.”

“Today’s victim was completing what would have been a routine job. Other workers need to stop and think about their routine jobs and how they can be made safer - don’t rely on experience and skill alone to get you through.’’
