Fatal fall at port

A man fell to his death on Saturday at the Port of Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia.

According to local reports, the man aged 50, is based at the port and was working on a handrail repair to a bulk grain ship. We understand that he was in the process of transferring from the platform of an aerial lift to a ladder of some sort when he slipped and fell into the ship’s hold.

The man was declared dead at the scene, Workcover has launched a full investigation and a report is being prepared for the coroner.
