Lighthouse Club restructures

The UK construction industry charity The Lighthouse Club has brought all of its activities together under a single charitable entity.

Prior to this change only the benevolent fund had charitable status, with the branches and other parts of the operation technically being a club. As part of the change the 56 year old charity has given itself a facelift and sharpened up its image.

While all parts of the Lighthouse Club will continue to function in the same way as before, it is hoped that changes will help it be a lot more pro-active in helping seriously injured construction workers and their families.

Currently most of the £500,000 a year that the organisation gives away is funded from individual’s membership fees, branch fund raising efforts and national events. Very few construction companies contribute directly to the cause.

The hope is that with an extended and more active charitable activity and a more efficient charitable status this will change and major contractors will sign up to annual sponsorships donating up to £50,000 a year.
