400 tonner for Areva Wind

German offshore wind turbine manufacturer Areva Wind of Bremerhaven, has taken delivery of a 400 tonne Liebherr LTM 1400-7.1 All Terrain crane.

The seven-axle LTM 1400-7.1 features a five section 60 metre main boom and an 84 metre luffing jib which provides a maximum under hook height of 130 metres. The ballast radius on the crane can also be adjusted from 5.6 to 6.6 metres which suits some of the more congested parts of the company’s facility and means only part ballasting is needed for a range of lifting tasks. Liebherr claims that it is the most compact crane in its class with improved manoeuvrable due to the new active rear axle steering.

Olaf Cordes, Areva’s transport and logistics manager, said: “Up to now we have been hiring mobile cranes on a grand scale for loading the heavy components. Having our own mobile crane provides us with greater flexibility and greater independence.”
