Liebherr makes it 40
Liebherr has delivered its 40th and 41st mobile harbour crane in North America - 33 in the USA and eight in Canada.
Unit number 40 was an LHM 550, purchased by the Maine Port Authority for its port in Searsport. The terminal includes two piers, one for dry cargo and one for liquid cargo. Bulk material handling is one of the machine’s main tasks so it is equipped with two winches for mechanical four rope grab operation. With a maximum lifting capacity of 144 tons, the new crane is also ideal for handling heavy lift cargo, such as wind turbine components.

The new LHM 550 is the second Liebherr Mobile Harbour crane purchased by the Maine Port Authority, having bought an LHM 320, in 2000.
The 41st unit is another LHM 550 acquired by Gloucester Terminals in New Jersey for general cargo and container handling. This is also a repeat order with the new LHM 550 joining an LHM 400 which was delivered in January 2011.
Gloucester Terminals specialises in steel, containers, forest products, project cargo and heavy lift. It is also one of the largest refrigerated cargo terminals in the country.
