JCB adds fourth plant in India
JCB is to spend £62 million ($100 million) on a new production facility in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India in order to expand its manufacturing operations in the country.
The new plant will go up on a 70 acre site that the company has purchased, the development costs are estimated at £62 million. JCB India already operates three factories in the country; one in Ballabgarh, Haryana near New Delhi and two in Pune. The release was not specific about the products likely to be built in the new plant, but may well include telehandlers.
JCB entered the Indian market in 1979 by setting up a backhoe loader manufacturing operation in Ballabgarh, which is now, according to the company, the largest backhoe loader plant in the world. More recently JCB India set up two new factories in Pune to manufacture components as well as tracked excavators, wheeled loading shovels and compaction equipment.
Speaking at the signing of the land purchase agreement, JCB India’s managing director Vipin Sondhi said: “This is a new chapter in the JCB India growth story. After a decade of continued investment by JCB in Ballabgarh and Pune, I’m thrilled that Jaipur will become home to the company’s next world-class manufacturing facility. Our strategy for sustainable long-term growth is all about ensuring our dealers and customers get the best product range and customer service in the industry. Jaipur will be central to delivering on that ambition.”
