Terex Hi-Ranger for Magic Valley

Terex Utilities has delivered a 14.3 metre working height TL41P Hi-Ranger telescopic material handling aerial device with HyPower Hybrid System to Mercedes, Texas based Magic Valley Electric Cooperative (MVEC).

The unit is already working on sites in the Rio Grande Valley from MVEC’s locations in Edinburg, Pharr and Brownsville as well as Mercedes. It doubles up as a work platform and a crane thanks to its lifting attachment.

Founded in 1937 to bring electricity to the rural areas of the Rio Grande Valley, Magic Valley is now privately owned by its customer/members and has 4,800 miles of power lines to look after feeding more than 100,000 residential and commercial locations.

Fleet manager Rick Mendez said: “The Terex HyPower system is designed for the electric utility industry. It gets exceptional fuel economy without sacrificing productivity, and, it’s durable in all weather conditions so we’re able to use it year-round, increasing the savings we can pass onto our members while improving environmental conditions.”

The Terex HyPower system uses batteries to power the non-propulsion functions of the lift, and can work for hours without crews needing to start the vehicle’s engine. The batteries are then recharged while travelling between sites or via a plug to the mains.

MVEC general manager John Herrera added: “The Terex TL41P HyPower truck has been a good fit for us. We are pleased with the productivity we’ve gotten on projects, and our crews especially like the quietness of operation — they are able to communicate more easily with one another on the jobsite.”

“We are evaluating opportunities to add additional Terex HyPower trucks to the fleet and perhaps retrofitting the system to existing vehicles.”
