Bridging the gap

A video reportedly taken in Northern Siberia, Russia, shows a slightly unusual way of commuting to work over a fast flowing icy river.

The men are apparently helping build a bridge over the river, but while a gap remains small groups of people are transported across the fast running river with the help of two excavators positioned either side of the gap.

Four or five people at a time, most carrying large bags, climb inside the excavator’s bucket which is then slewed halfway across the river. The empty bucket of the second excavator is then suspended next to the first and with absolutely no thought to the potential dangers – in fact some look like they are on some kind of amusement ride – the ‘passengers’ climb from one bucket into the next. Which then slews them round to where they are unloaded onto the other side of the river...
