Nports takes two Liebherrs
German terminal operator Niedersachsen Ports has recently taken delivery of two Liebherr mobile harbour cranes for its ports in Brake and Emden.
The company opted for an LHM 550 for its port in Brake having previously operated the model’s predecessor, the LHM 500, for several years. With a maximum lifting capacity of 144 tonnes, the LHM 550 can lift 40.9 tonnes at its maximum radius of 54 metres. Thanks to Liebherr’s Sycratronic system the LHM 500 and LHM 550 can now carry out tandem lifts up to 284 tonnes.
For its port in Emden the company specified an LHM 420 after its existing crane had to be shut down at short notice. Equipped with two double winches it provides a maximum lifting capacity of 124 tonnes and a lifting radius of up to 48 metres.

Project engineering manager Wilfried Schleusener said: “Because of the urgent need the procurement of the new mobile harbour crane was quite challenging for all parties involved. We are pleased that everything worked out very smoothly, including the contract negotiations, the challenging unload of the crane at the Südkai, the installation of the LHM 420 and the training of the crane operators in Emden.”
Based in Oldenburg, Niedersachsen Ports operators five seaports, seven island supply ports and three regional ports all located on the north coast of Germany.
