Jib buckles at station
The jib of a mobile self-erecting tower crane buckled at Eindhoven station in the Netherlands on Monday.
The six axle Spierings SK1265, owned by Van Riel crane rental, which has three locations in the area, was apparently lifting within its capacity at the time.
The 60 metre jib came down onto the railway causing the authorities to stop all rail traffic until the crane was made safe. Thankfully no one was hurt in the incident and it was due to be cleared in time for today’s commute.

The buckled jib caused disruption
Van Riel, said that the crane, which was helping install a new pedestrian walkway, was fully inspected and had been subjected to its annual test just two weeks ago, it blamed the collapse on metal fatigue or a structural fault.

The jib was left dangling over the railway tracks
ProRail and the contractor Heijmans have appointed a third party inspection company to investigate the cause of the incident.
As well as the jib needing some attention with a welder, I be the cab seat could also benefit from some re-upholstery now ! Must be a tad scary up there when your jib decides to fail on you !
