Fatal crushing incident in New Orleans
A ships crew member working from an aerial lift on the outside of the cruise ship Carnival Conquest at the port of New Orleans, died yesterday after he was crushed between the basket and part of the ship.
There were two men in the platform at the time and the other man - who was operating the lift - was not injured in the incident. The lift was an 80ft JLG owned by Sunbelt Rentals.
A statement from Carnival Cruise Lines said the crew member was performing maintenance work when he became wedged between the aerial lift and a platform holding a lifeboat.
The incident took place yesterday morning. Harbour Police and New Orleans Police Department are investigating.
