Manitou goes with Deutz

Telehandler manufacturer Manitou, is equipping its six and seven metre agricultural telehandlers with Deutz power units from the start of next year.

The company currently uses Kubota, Perkins and Mercedes engines in the seven models/variants of six and seven metre units within its Ag’ line.

The models will be equipped with the four cylinder water cooled Deutz TCD 3.6 which has been developed for use in agricultural equipment. The compact engine is said to be easier to install and is equipped with a modular exhaust gas after-treatment system. The TCD 3.6 also comes with a charge air cooler and needs only an oxidation catalyst to meet the requirements of EU 3B and US EPA Tier 4 interim emission categories.

Michael Wellenzohn of Deutz said: "With the Manitou group we were able to secure a company with a great history as our new European partner in the agricultural equipment segment. Our compact powerhouses offer reliable performance, even under the most challenging conditions."

Vertikal Comment

While the information in this announcement simply covers the supply of a particular engine for a specific range of telehandlers, the tone of release seems to suggest a much deeper partnership between the two companies.

Although moving from three suppliers to one makes sound sense, considering the supply chain issues that Manitou struggled with in the past couple of years.

Deutz already has a strategic agreement and cross shareholding with Same Deutz Fahr which works with JLG in the European agricultural telescopic handler market, selling JLG built units under the Deutz brand.
