Profit boost at Bronto

Finnish truck mounted lift manufacturer Bronto Skylift, has reported a strong surge in revenues and profitability for the nine months to the end of September.

Total revenues for the nine months were up 16.5 percent to $105 million, while year to date operating income surged 68 percent to $7.4 million. The only negative aspect of the results are a 20 percent fall in the order backlog to $80.3 million.

Looking at the third quarter, sales improved 51 percent compared to the same period last year to $38.6 million, driven by higher shipments to Europe, the Middle East and the USA. However order intake slipped, due to lower demand in the Asia Pacific region which was very strong last year. Partially offset by improved order intake in the US for wind turbine and utility applications. Operating profit for the quarter jumped 75 percent to $3.3 million.

Bronto is part of US based Federal Signal, its consolidated results for the six months show revenues up 7.5 percent to $631.7 million, while pre-tax profits jumped 72 percent to $32.8 million.

Vertikal Comment

Another excellent set of numbers from Bronto in terms of revenues, profits and product mix, the blend between fire and rescue lifts and ‘industrial’ models for the commercial market works well with the two often offsetting each and providing some diversification to balance out the fluctuations of the economic cycles.

While order intake softened, the $80 million backlog is still more than six months worth of business. All in all Bronto continues to progress and the next few year’s look bright.
