Cooper Equipment acquires City

Canadian general rental company G. Cooper Equipment Rentals is to acquire City Rentals, both business are based in the greater Toronto area.

The deal, which is a straightforward share purchase deal, should be completed by the end of the month.

Established in 1972, Cooper Equipment offers a wide range of equipment, including the most popular scissor and boom lifts, scaffold and telehandlers, while City Rentals offers a more l;imited range of access equipment. Cooper operates from four locations, in Rexdale, Scarborough, Downtown Toronto and York Region with 55 employees. Earlier this year Halifax based SeaFort Capital acquired a majority stake in Coopers founders -chief executive Darryl Cooper and president Doug Dougherty – continue to lead the business.

City Rentals was founded in 2004 and is based in Scarborough, Torronto and employs 15 people. The management team, including president Larry McCourt, and vice president Scott MacKinnon will remain on board with Cooper, and have made a significant investment in the combined business.

Dougherty said: "We are excited about the opportunity to strengthen our business in the Greater Toronto Area with the addition of City's impressive team of rental professionals, and top-notch equipment fleet and facilities."
Darryl Cooper added: "This acquisition allows us to continue to pursue our goal of continually improving Cooper's rental services to the GTA contractor base."

McCourt said: "We had been looking for a way to meet the demands of our ever increasing and loyal customer base at City, and by joining the Cooper team, we believe we have found the ideal way to do that".
MacKinnon added: "My customer service philosophy aligns perfectly with Cooper's, and I am ‘stoked’ about contributing to the further growth of the fastest growing equipment rental company in the GTA market."
