SED moves to Corby
SED the UK’s largest construction equipment show, introduced exhibitors to its new home yesterday and today. The new location will be the Rockingham Speedway (now Rockingham Performance Park) located on the north east side of Corby in northern Northamptonshire, some 45 miles from the current location in Milton Keynes.

The new site is being developed for the long term with tarmac paths and roads, and a special heavy duty hard-standing for cranes. The area is subject to an aggressive development plan with the population of Corby expected to double over the next 10 years.
The new site is slightly larger than the existing one, and offers significant potential for expansion. The first SED to be held there will be the next one, the 40th in May 2006. Parking for over 8,000 cars has been reserved for the first year’s event.
Given that the site can handle up to 50,000 visitors on a single day, the traffic problems seen at Fen farm last year should be significantly reduced.

This is the site for SED, at the rear of the grandstand. The site stretches almost as far as the power station, the Cranes and Access village runs from the shed (east entrance) on the left towards the grandstand, from where the photo was taken.
The site lies within an hour’s drive of four international airports, and 70 percent of the UK’s population live with in a two hour drive.
The Grandstand building offers 83 hospitality suites and large meeting rooms which can cater for up to 500 delegates.

The Organisers say that the space costs will remain at last years levels for inside space and will only increase by one percent outside. The majority of the site will have a hardcore surface, which combined with the tarmac paths, should reduce the dust problems experienced at Fen farm.
The Corby borough Council has given strong support to help bring SED to the Rockingham facility, which was built as an Indy car racing track in 2001. A new dual carriageway road to the entrance is planned within two years, to connect with the A14 while hotels and additional conference facilities are planned over the next five years.

Companies that exhibited at SED in 2005 are eligible for a five percent discount for 2006 IF they book by November 3rd. A points system will be used to give priority for the most popular stand locations.
The Cranes and Access village for which the Vertikal Press is the official publication, is extremely well located close to the main entrance and the main road into the facility and close to the grandstand facilities. The site will though have a car park and an entrance on each of its four sides which should help encourage even visitor traffic to all stands.
