Hertz expands in Middle East
The Hertz Equipment joint venture in Saudia Ariabia - Hertz Dayim Equipment Rental – is to launch a new operation in Qatar
The Qatar move comes four years after the original partnership between Hertz and Dayim Holdings was established, with Phoenix Project Development (part of Al-Attiyah Motors & Trading group), joining the two existing partners. The new business plans to sell and rent equipment and tools to construction and industrial markets throughout Qatar, starting in Doha.
The joint venture hopes to benefit from the Gulf state’s plans to invest $182 billion on public projects over the next five years in the run up to the World Cup in 2022. The Qatar fleet will include aerial lifts, material handling equipment as well as power, compressor and tool rental items. Phoenix Project Development will provide Hertz-Dayim with a variety of services to help build the business. This will include contacts with various local and international companies to help kick start the new business in Qatar.
Hertz vice president international, Francis Early said: “With Qatar’s planned infrastructure mega-projects over the next five years, Hertz Dayim Equipment Rental is well positioned for expansion into the Gulf State. Hertz-Dayim’s aim is to provide first class, value-added equipment rental solutions to the country’s construction and infrastructure development industry.”
Prince Khalid bin Bandar bin Sultan chairman of Hertz-Dayim Equipment Rental added: “Regional expansion is a major strategic objective for Hertz-Dayim Equipment Rental and I believe that Qatar is the right place to begin this expansion. Infrastructure and construction sectors in Qatar are expected to see massive growth because of the FIFA World Cup in 2022, leading to heavy demand for construction equipment and related services. Regional presence will give scale to our business, as well as the flexibility to move fleet across different Gulf Corporation Council markets. We are confident that we will replicate the success of the Saudi business across the GCC and this is just the first step in that direction.”
