Terex expands explorer range
Terex Cranes has expanded its Explorer range of All Terrain cranes with the addition of the Explorer 5500.
The '130 tonne class crane' is now the smallest in the three model range which includes the 160 tonne 5600 and the 220 tonne 5800.
The new crane features a 60 metre main boom with three offsettable jibs of 11, 21, and 33 metres, giving an 86.5 metre maximum system length. The maximum load moment is 395 metre/tonnes and maximum load that can be telescoped is 24.5 tonnes. Three outrigger extension positions of 2.54, 4.7, and 7.0 metres can be selected.

The five axle carrier has a 12.1 metre length, while the crane has an overall length of 14.3 metres and a width of 2.75 metres. When in driving operation the Explorer 5500 has a dynamic launch control function which prevents the crane from rolling backwards when starting up and when moving on slopes.
The crane has many configurable features allowing it to comply with various road regulations in its key markets, including a removable main boom and a maximum front overhang of 1.52 metres.
All components for the Explorer 5500 can be transported using a single standard support vehicle. Its automatic counterweight set-up enables it to be ready for operation quickly. Power comes from a single Euromot 4 and Tier 4 (final) engine with a Euromot 3a/Tier 3 engine available where needed.
The operators cab has improved visibility and can be tilted up to 16 degrees with touch screen displays providing data such as tyre pressures, brake system and suspension system status.
