A crane operator died yesterday after he was hit by a falling hook block which crashed through his cab roof in Hong Kong.
The operator Wu Ka-fai, 62,was operating his crawler crane at the Pearl River bridge construction site, near the River Trade Terminal, Tuen Mun, Hong Kong. Reports suggest that the block- a single line ‘headache ball’ fell after the hoist cable broke. The photo we have received indicates that this happened at the block itself.
The Department of Labour sent inspectors to the site to investigate the incident, and the secretary for Labour and Welfare, Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, issued a statement confirming that the department has suspended work at the site while the investigation is carried out.
