Friday crazies

A reader has sent us in a photograph of three men carrying out a job that regularly involves forms of access that make it into our Death Wish series – repairing or moving a wall mounted air conditioning unit on a high rise apartment.

This example, adds in the cantilever plank form of access – we have no idea where it was taken, or when but the three men have employed a folded aluminium step ladder to create an extension to the ledge and then two larger men are acting as counterweight while the third walks the plank to work on the air conditioner.

The risk are clear and obvious – the ladder is not designed for such loadings – but it looks strong enough to support it, more risking is that one of the three falls or makes a mistake.

Just imagine the ‘mechanic’ asking for a different socket or screwdriver – the man at the back says "sure I’ll go get one" – forgetting that as the largest and furthest back he is a key part of the counterweight – he steps back into the room and !! the other two plummet to the ground. "Where did they go?"

Innovative access in action - three stooges?

Definitely one for our Death Wish series. Have a great weekend and don’t forget, that more accidents occur on a Friday than other day!! So be safe.
