Qatar scaffold DW

A reader has sent us a photograph he recently took of a dangerous looking scaffold tower in Doha, Qatar.

The picture shows two men carrying out work on a façade at a height of around 10 metres, using a tower cobbled together from a number of small-tube system scaffold frames. The two look to be standing on a platform created from loose planks on the top frame. To make matter worse a third man is climbing up the outside of the tower in spite of the absence of any rungs, this looks to be the only way up. The three are clearly aware of stability issues and have used two wooden poles to act as larger outriggers.

In the words of our correspondence: “Minimal bracing, climbing on the outside of the tower, wooden legs with only locked castors for support.”

Climbing up the outside of the small-tube system scaffold

Definitely one for our Death Wish series.
