Crane overturns in Denver

A five axle All Terrain crane has overturned in downtown Denver Colorado this morning, injuring one man.

An overview of the scene

The crane – looks like RMS Cranes Liebherr LTM1160-5.1, it seems to have had its full boom extended while working on a new multi-story car park when the ground gave way under the rear outrigger over which the crane was working. The outrigger appears to have punched through into a void. The crane was set up on mats.

The crane overturned when a rear outrigger punched through the ground into a void

The crane tipped and as the boom struck the building the second section buckled and the hook block and possible a load went through the roof of an adjacent building. A man on the roof of the car park received minor injuries in the incident. The crane operator was shaken but unhurt.

The rear loaded outrigger punched through the surface into a void, possibly a well or sink hole
