Fatal fall for abseiler

An abseiler fell to his death on Thursday at the Gold Coast exhibition and convention centre in Queensland, Australia.

The man, 29, who worked for a local abseiling specialist, was carrying out maintenance work on an air conditioning duct in the main arena, along with two colleagues, when he fell around 20 metres from a catwalk. He was reported to have been wearing all of the required safety equipment when he fell.

Workplace Health & Safety officers are working with the police to investigate what had happened.
