Manitou 360 for Thomas Cook

Thomas Cook Airlines has taken delivery of a 360 degree Manitou MRT2540 telehandler for access and handling duties at London Gatwick airport in the UK.

The company’s engineering department wanted a versatile machine for handling aircraft components and assisting in the removal of damaged parts. It finally decided on the 25 metre, four tonne capacity MRT2540, equipped with a wide range of special options including: A three metre, three person work platform with a 600kg platform capacity and a lift winch with up to 300kg capacity for lifting components.

The platform is equipped with a trap door in the floor allowing the operator to reach areas under the basket, drop down toe boards for working alongside the aircraft, ultra sound proximity sensors on the platform and infra- red sensors on the boom to avoid collisions. Two metre forks were also supplied in addition to the standard forks for lateral handling of loads.

A Manitou MRT2540 telehandler proved the perfect solution for Thomas Cook Airlines

Thomas Cook Airlines does not have a hangar for working on damaged planes at Gatwick, and crane operation is not permitted in the immediate area without the approval of the Civil Aviation Authority, which can take up to four weeks. The MRT 2540 therefore seemed the perfect solution. The 25 metre MRT2540 has up to 18 metres of outreach, allowing it to reach all areas of the aircraft, while the various attachments make it truly versatile.
