Man crushed during lift
Emergency services were called out on Sunday morning to the A1306, in West Thurrock, where a bridge over a railway line was being replaced.
A 43-year-old man from Buckinghamshire, was killed when a concrete section, weighing around 30 tonnes, fell on top of him. Eye witness accounts say that the section was being lowered onto a trailer when it slipped and fell onto the man who was standing beside the trailer.
Ambulance staff were on the scene within minutes but the man had suffered massive injuries and there was nothing that could be done to save him. He was confirmed dead on scene.
Essex Police and the Health and Safety Executive have begun an investigation
