Jekko pipe manipulator
Italian mini/spider crane and aerial lift manufacturer, Jekko has launched a new pipe manipulator attachment for its SPX 1040 spider crane - the GR300.
The new attachment has a capacity of 300kg and can grasp, fully rotate, tilt, rotate and manoeuvre pipes into position and hold them while they are fixed in place. It is able to handle pipes and poles with diameters of between 100 and 330mm. It can be used on either the four tonne SPX1040 or the larger 7.5 tonne SPX1275.

The new attachment - which can reach a height of 22 metres and an outreach of 16 metres, when used in conjunction with the SPX1040 - will be launched at the Rental Show in the USA later this month. The device has already been tested and approved to ANSI standards, and according to Jekko it can be easily attached to the crane by one man.

Vertikal Comment
This looks like a very handy attachment that will appeal for a variety of companies that install or handle pipes. It is also a great deal simpler than some of the systems that gone before it, which will have its advantages in being simpler to operate, and possibly less costly. The only downside is the fact that it cannot rotate laterally at the jib head, which will require a little more attention to be paid to the placing of the crane.
All in all it looks like something which appeal to end users and help sell more cranes.
