Death wish elevator

Sent in by a regular reader in the UK three men misusing a material elevator, riding the unprotected load deck/platform with a large panel sheet.

The incident is best explained in our correspondent’s own words.

“Please find attached a photograph that was sent to me recently that qualifies as a ‘Death Wish’ incident on so many levels. The photo was sent by a former colleague form my powered access days who knows of my present business and wondered if this was how these machines worked. They absolutely don't of course and this photograph has been circulated widely, potentially giving the fledging business a bad image”.

The scene - somewhere in the UK - wonder who the hi-viz observer is?

“What I find most galling about this is the fact that as with the access industry those working in industry are trying to promote elevators as a safe alternative and idiots like these completely undercut that message”.

“I would be interested to read the method statement for this job, as I am sure that it didn't include ‘We'll get a couple of idiots to clamber all over a load deck, not designed for lifting personnel and totally unprotected, while the operator turns a blind eye’.”

A closer look

He is absolutely right going to the effort to rent in equipment like this and then treat it in this manner is ridiculous. The chances of serious injury are high, and yet in the event of a fall far more people than these three idiots would be affected.

Definitely one for our Death Wish series.
