Crawling the plank

Four men spotted working on a cross canal pipeline apparently carrying out work for National Grid Gas in Billet Lane, Berkhamsted, UK. They clearly have no idea about safe and efficient work at height.

We are not certain when the incident occurred, but was sent to us last Monday, and we believe that might well have been the day it was taken? One man has a short ladder at one end of the pipe, while another is sat straddling it, while a colleague crawls over a ladder that is acting as a bridge between the real bridge guardrail and the pipe. A fourth man looks on.

Spotted in the UK four men working on a Gas pipe

Whoever planned this job has explaining to do, but most worrying is that the four – one assumes intelligent – individuals thought that this was a safe and efficient way to work. A 3.5 tonne truck mounted lift with some negative reach capability would almost certainly have made short work of this job with half the people. It shows that there is still vast numbers of new users to bring into the powered access fold.

Hopefully all members of the team were swimmers. Definitely one for our Death Wish series

We thought we recognised the pipe and location - it has been used in the past to demonstrate the below ground reach of the Multitel MJ-201 something like this would have been ideal for this job
