UK production director for Snorkel

Snorkel has appointed John Gill as director of manufacturing operations at its UK plant, in North East England, with responsibility for production, product quality, supply chain efficiency and health and safety at the site.

He joins Snorkel from Terex where he was general manager and operations director for its Minerals & Processing Systems plants in Coalville, UK and Subang Jaya, Malaysia.

Originally from North East England, he began his career with British Steel before joining Komatsu in 1988 in its production engineering department. During his 13 years with Komatsu, he held positions within production quality and purchasing management, before being promoted to manufacturing director in 1997, where he was responsible for manufacturing, purchasing and materials strategy development for Komatsu Europe.

In 2001 he joined JCB as managing director of JCB Heavy Products, a role that he held for eight years, before becoming managing director of the telehandler division, a job he held for four years. He then left to take up an 18 month assignment with Siemens Wind Power in Denmark before joining Terex in January.

He is a high calibre leader with a successful track record and an unparalleled knowledge of both manufacturing processes and the mobile construction equipment industry. John has the ability to implement manufacturing and operational strategies that will deliver a consistently high quality product that meets the expectations of our expanding global customer base.”

Gill added: “I really believe that this role is a perfect fit. Snorkel is in a significant growth phase and there is a genuine focus on continuous improvement across all facets of the business. With my experience, I feel confident that I can help the UK manufacturing facility, and the wider business, to move to the next level in delivering high quality, cost-effective products that are safe, reliable and innovative to our customer base when they need them. I am also excited to be moving back to the North East of England.”
