Walter Sellick 1918 – 2016
Walter Sellick the founder of Canadian heavy fork truck manufacturer Sellick Equipment passed away on Tuesday January 10th age 98.
Sellick grew up on a farm in Harrow, Ontario and there all his life, and the Sellick plant is still located there, he formed the company in 1969. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 and served until the end of the war in 1945.
He then joined an agricultural equipment dealer and managed a dealer ship until 1968. At the age of 50 he decided to set up on his own and established the company that bears his name with sons Howard and David to build Rough Terrain fork trucks. In the 1990s the company was acquired by Avis Industrial of Upland, Indiana.

He also served as a director of EMI - the Equipment Manufacturers Institute, which is now known as the Association of Equipment Manufacturers - AEM, and helped pioneer the EMI Rough Terrain forklift Council. He is also a former mayor of Harrow, and past member of the Harrow and Colchester South Fire Department.
He is survived by sons Howard and David, daughter Heather, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
