Runaway platform

A driver was seriously injured last week when the AMZ86 boom lift he was unloading free-wheeled off the back of the low loader and crashed into in building in Berlin, Connecticut.

The lift covered around 17 metres or so before its basket, with the operator still at the controls, smashed through the wall of Fred’s Auto Mart demolishing the upper corner of the building.
Rescue workers took over 45 minutes to cut the man free, from the machine and the building.

The man who has not been named, incurred serious injuries and was in a critical state in hospital last night. No information was available regarding the cause or if the operator had attached the lift to the trailers winch or not.

The operator worked for a local contracting company, which apparently owned the lift.
