Can you figure out why this crane tipped?

The operator Randy “Squirrel” Anderson, of Augusta Crane and Rigging said that he had operated the crane for a year and a half and had operated cranes for over 30 years.

And yet he was not sure why the crane tipped over and even after watching a video of it from the shopping malls CCTV could still not work it out and put it down to a “mechanical failure”.

The crane was intending to lift an air conditioning unit onto the roof of a shopping mall, thanks goodness he tipped before picking the load up.

Perhaps someone should explain that he appears to have forgotten to put out some important stabilising aids?
