Dundee port deal for ALE

International heavy lift company ALE has signed an agreement with OM Heavy Lift and the Port of Dundee in Scotland to provide the full service of port operations.

ALE will work alongside OM Heavy Lift - a subsidiary of Scottish heavy lifting company Oilfield Machinery (OilMac) - which has purchased ALE’s 1,200 tonne Gottwald MK1500 crane and will permanently base it at the Port of Dundee to provide heavy lifting and port handling services to offshore wind and 'renewables' construction, and decommissioning clients working in the North Sea.

ALE commercial director Chris Taylor said: “We are pleased to be working together to optimise our services to the ever evolving renewable sector. The Port of Dundee is becoming an increasingly bigger player in the offshore markets and, by promoting our services together, we can really optimise these opportunities and provide a fully integrated service to our clients.”

OM Heavy Lift managing director Alex Fyfe added: “We are anticipating our heavy crane capability to be a significant attraction for offshore wind developments. The Gottwald MK1500 is a vital asset for future offshore wind and decommissioning projects in Dundee and will propel our business in the medium term, and beyond.”

Port of Dundee port manager David Webster said: “A permanent crane removes mobilisation charges, which is important in a competitive market. We place significant emphasis upon the decommissioning and renewables construction capabilities of at the Port of Dundee, and it becomes ever more attractive in this field as OM Heavy Lift’s Gottwald MK1500 and Olympus cranes mitigate those craneage costs.”
