Police planning reconstruction

The Manchester police force is planning to carry out a reconstruction of the November 1st accident in which a bus struck a boom lift, throwing the operator to his death.

The reconstruction is currently planned for Sunday December 3rd and is likely to include a full reconstruction largely to determine the role that the bus driver played in the incident.

The Genie 60/34 owned by Nationwide was working on the windows of a building in Wilmslow Road, Rusholme, Manchester when the bus was said to have swerved and hit the lift.

Martin Pilling, 27, of Salford was thrown out of the basket by the impact, although the lift remained upright. Pilling was not wearing a harness.

This is possibly the first time that such a reconstruction has been conducted following an aerial lift accident. We also understand that the entire incident was picked up by street mounted CCTV cameras.
