Colombian Groves
Colombian rental company Invertrac has taken delivery of two Grove All Terrain cranes, a 250 tonne GMK5250L and a 300 tonne GMK6300L.
The five axle GMK5250L – the first in the country - is equipped with a 70 metre main boom and a 21 metre bi-fold swingaway extension that can be extended with additional inserts to 37 metres, for a maximum tip height of 110 metres. The six axle GMK6300L features an 80 metre, seven section main boom with Twin-Lock pinning. Topped by a 12 to 21 metre hydraulically luffing bi-fold swingaway extension, with two eight metre inserts which take the maximum tip height to 120 metres. Currently, the GMK5250L is supporting oil drilling operations in Castilla de la Nueva, central Colombia, while the GMK6300L is helping with the assembly of beam bridges in Bogotá.

The two new Groves
Project manager Alejandro Camacho said: “There are only a few cranes in Colombia in this capacity range that could deliver the increased strength and stability we wanted. The GMK5250L is a fantastic machine — its Megatrak suspension performs impressively on rough terrain and it has excellent heavy lifting capacity. Colombia really needed a high tech crane like this. With great roadability and manoeuvrability, this Grove has also increased our velocity on the job site.”
“We have unique cranes in our fleet that no one else has in Colombia - versatile, with increased lifting capabilities and new technologies. Additionally, we like the great customer support we receive from Manitowoc.”
Based in Bogotá, with two more depots in Duitama and Buenaventura, Invertrac's core business is logistics and cargo transportation services, as well as fuel distribution.
