First MDT 809 in US

Maryland based Concrete contractor Schuster Concrete Construction has taken the first Potain MDT 809 M25 flat top crane to be delivered in the USA.

Launched at bauma, the MDT 809 M25 is one of the largest flat top cranes manufactured by Potain with a maximum capacity of 25 tonnes and an 80 metre jib with a nine tonne jib tip capacity. The company claims the crane is much faster to erect and dismantle than other cranes of this size, with smaller sections reducing the number of containers needed for transport.

The crane went straight out on its first job to assist with concrete pouring and moving rebar and formwork at the ‘City Ridge’ development project in Washington, DC, which will see the former Fannie Mae headquarters converted into residential homes.

John Bildstein, special operations manager at Schuster, said: “The material is not much heavier than what we usually encounter, but with the MDT 809 M25 we can move much larger amounts at a time, which enables us to be way faster and keep pace on the schedule that we have. The MDT 809 M25 definitely plays a critical role in improving our efficiency on the job site.”

“Potain is the only brand that has a topless crane design combined with excellent load charts like the MDT 809 M25. We also chose it because almost our entire fleet consists of other Potain models, and we are comfortable deploying the equipment on any job. Also, over the years we have received excellent customer service support from Manitowoc.”

Founded in 1974 as a small concrete contractor, Owing Mills, Maryland, based Schuster added the manufacturing of concrete elements to its business in 1985 and is now one of the largest concrete construction companies in the state.
