Crush injuries prove fatal

A man died after he was crushed by a spider lift he was unloading in Keithville, Louisiana – to the south of Shreveport Louisiana - on Tuesday.

According to an initial statement from the local police and Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office. The man, who has been named as Jose Paramo, 45, died from injuries sustained when crushed by a scissor lift. However we now know a good deal more.

UPDATE
Since we first published this item Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office issued the following statement: "emergency crews responding to a call for assistance found another uniformed officer already there helping the Asplundh Tree Service crew members physically lift a bucket power lift off a man who was trapped underneath it. when it slid off a trailer that was unlevel. Mr Paramo was using a remote control to remove the power lift from the trailer that was attached to an Asplundh work truck. A police officer and Asplundh crew member used two car jacks to lift the equipment off of Paramo. Emergency personnel administered CPR before Paramo was transported to the hospital."

The Shreveport branch of Asplundh Tree Service runs a number of Altec tracked telescopic spider lifts that it transports on a two axle trailer behind its trucks, so it looks as though this incident was caused while unloading one of these machines from the trailer and it slipped off the ramp.
