New CEO for GKN

Off highway wheel manufacturer GKN Wheels and Structures has appointed Adbul Butt as chief executive.

Butt joined GKN as general manager of metal manufacturing in 1999 following a four year engineering apprenticeship with Ford. Since then he has held a number of senior roles within the company, becoming vice president of automotive component manufacturing in 2009, president and chief operating officer in 2011 and president of automotive and industrial metal component manufacturing for the Americas in 2015. He also spent a short time as US regional operations director.

Butt said: “I am delighted to have been appointed to this role at such an exciting time for the company. I am looking forward to working closely with my team to deliver our growth and development plans worldwide and to drive the long term investment programmes across our plants and technology to bring industry leading solutions to our customers.”

GKN wheel dates back to 1920 when Guest, Keen and Nettlefolds merged with Joseph Sankey, a company that had developed and patented the first pressed and welded, detachable car wheel, known as the ‘All Steel Wheel’. Now part of Melrose Industries, the company manufacturers more than eight million wheels a year at the company's original Hadley site in Telford, UK, as well as in Armstrong and Estherville, US, Lingyungang and Liuzhou, China and Nagbol, Denmark. The company also designs, manufactures and supplies chassis frames, pressed steel, aluminium structural assemblies and cast aluminium wheels.
