Lineman electrocuted

A linesman employed by the town of Welsh in Louisiana died on Tuesday while working on an overhead power line.

The man, Lyle Fontenot, was working from a truck mounted aerial work platform/bucket truck when other people working in the vicinity saw him crumple into the bucket. They were able to use the machine’s lower controls to bring him down and he was rushed to hospital, but sadly did not survive.

A statement from the town - which is located half way between Lake Charles and Lafayette - said: “So often simple things are taken for granted... electricity is one of those. Our men work tirelessly to provide the power that is needed in our town. Today one of our own was taken from us by the volts that run through our lines. This terrible accident took the life of a husband, son, brother, father, grandfather & friend to many... Please keep all our men and their families in your prayers! Please pray for the Fontenot Family and support them in their time of need!!”
