Crane and truck collide on M60

A city type All Terrain crane was involved in a serious road accident this morning on the M60 motorway between Manchester and Oldham in the UK.

It seems the crane, a two axle 35 tonne Kato in John Sutch livery, and an articulated truck collided this morning at around 7:30. The truck jackknifed into the central reservation while the crane hit the hard shoulder and overturned. According to police one of the drivers was in his 20s and the other in his 60s, neither of them suffered more than minor injuries.

The highway was shut down for most of the morning, while the recovery of the two vehicles took place. We have no details on whether the truck jackknife caused the incident or if it was the result of the two making contact but will update if and when we find out.

Why are these cranes still allowed on motorways, over the years I have had a few near misses, most of these kato city cranes only do 33mph flat out,and struggle up most motorway climbs at 25mph.
