The crane operator and the sunbather

A crane operator used his crane to frustrate a sunbather in London, UK, this week, his video footage, complete with commentary went viral on twitter.

The tower crane operator sitting in his cab, waiting for his next lift spotted the man sunbathing on a piece of grass opposite the job site. He moved the crane hook slightly so that it cast a shadow over him. The sunbather got up and moved his towel to a new location. Delighted with the reaction the operator very slowly slewed his crane a little, until the hook block placed he sun worshiper in the shade once again. Once again he moved causing great amusement to the bored operator who repeated the caper.

The operator recorded the entire episode, complete with his commentary, and then on Tuesday evening posted it on twitter as @LittleMrMillwall of Lewisham. Since then it has been viewed more than 2.5 million times.

If the rumour mill is correct, the operator, who is employed by one of the UK’s largest tower crane companies was suspended for anti-social behaviour. This is a tricky area, in that tomfoolery at work can end in disaster and even prove fatal, but in this case it is hard to see that any risks were taken, there were no erratic or distracting movements or actions, no work was disrupted or delayed and no one was hurt. Even the sunbather would most likely have found the entire episode amusing once he realised what was going on.

A potentially positive thing is that one female viewer, of the video- a budding crane operator -commented: "I have never wanted to be a crane operator more."

Take a look at the video yourself and have a great weekend.

It’s a absolute scandal that the operator has been suspended, somebody should name and shame the site and company for doing this. Wonder how the conversation went? “ we are suspending you for casting a shadow and being hilarious” just proves the point we have humourless retards running some sites.

As someone that knows the operator, I can confirm he has been suspended

Seems like the fun police are out in force. Shame that things come to this(if indeed he was suspended).

This is awesome and welcome distraction from the current situation, it’s a shame that there was a humourless jobsworth on LinkedIn yesterday DEMANDING people remove the video, this is good clean harmless fun that makes construction so great to work in, it’s also inspired more people to become crane operators than somebody turning up to a school with a boring lecture lol.
