Crane fatality at US fort

A fatal crane incident occurred at the US military training base of Fort Leonard Wood in the Missouri Ozarks (south west of St Louis) on Tuesday.

The man, Oric Arnold, a civilian employee of Fort Leonard Wood’s Logistics Readiness Center, was working in the equipment maintenance yard at the fort, when what the authorities described as a ‘construction crane’ overturned, inflicting serious injuries from which he succumbed shortly after arriving at a local hospital. A co-worker was also injured and was treated at hospital and released.

A press statement from the Fort Leonard Wood public affairs office said: "An incident occurred around 14:00 on Tuesday, the emergency services were on the scene within minutes. The worker died around 15:30 at General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital."

No further details have been released, apart from the fact that an investigation has been launched.
