Nifty Stage V Hybrids

Niftylift has formally launched its new Gen2 Hybrid generation diesel/electric hybrid power pack for its HR17 and HR21 boom lifts.

The key change for the new generation is the adoption of EU Stage V diesel power units, along with further improvements to the electric power train. As on earlier versions, the machines can be used as full electric powered units, while the electric motor also provides an automatic power boost to the diesel engine when the platform encounters steep, boggy or sticky ground. The new drive train is said to offer reduced fuel consumption when used as a diesel - as much as 50 percent lower - with significantly lower emissions without sacrificing performance.

The Niftylift hybrid system allows a smaller engine to be used than would otherwise be required, without the need for particulate filters or ad blue, while still maintaining power and performance of a larger engine.

The battery pack is made up of heavy duty AGM maintenance free batteries which can be recharged either from an AC, mains power source, or by using the machine’s engine - ‘Diesel-Ren’ - feature which recharges the batteries twice as fast as when plugged into the mains. In addition when the machine is being used in diesel mode, any surplus power produced by the engine, tops up the battery pack.

The system incorporates full battery management and protection system which monitors battery voltage, current and temperature to protect the battery pack and optimise the charging profile.

Vertikal Comment

Nifty has been producing hybrid boom lifts for more than 13 years and has made numerous periodic improvements along the way, refining the system and introducing new technology. While this latest version is dubbed Gen2 it is closer to being the third generation hybrid system that the company has introduced.

When the company first developed a hybrid power pack, it was really on its own, while today it has numerous competitors, however it is hard to short cut the experience curve, and Nifty has that ‘in spades’. The company's previous system was pretty well perfected, but this latest incarnation takes it another step forward.
