Custom reach stacker for Sweden

Swedish port operator Uddevalla Hamnterminal has taken delivery of a 100 tonne customised Konecranes reach stacker for its port in Uddevalla.

The port worked with Konecranes distributor N C Nielsen to supply and modify the NCN 100T which features a reinforced boom, increased counterweight and larger lifting cylinders. Total weight is 79.1 tonnes, overall width 4.16 metres and overall stowed length 13.3 metres.

Supplied with a fixed hook block, the new unit will be used to handle wind turbine sections and nacelles at the port. It will also be used to handle house modules, paper, vehicles, chrome ore, magnesium chloride and chemical fertiliser.

The new reachstacker lifts a 95 tonne turbine mast section

Uddevalla port project and operations manager, Robert Rydén, said: “Wind turbines are getting bigger and bigger and we needed a machine that was both powerful and flexible. We previously had a reach stacker that handled 65 tonnes in one lift, but we need a bit more. In 2020 alone, we will be handling 67 complete turbines that will be unloaded in the port, then loading 176 tower sections on 31 different occasions onto smaller vessels here in the port.”

N C Nielsen area manager Per Löthner, added: “Our range of heavy handling reach stackers currently goes from 85 to 152 tonnes in respect of lift capacity. The machine that is being delivered to Uddevalla Port is a successful example of how we work with the customer in the long term to produce good solutions. And when we have delivered the customised machine, that’s when the long term work begins.”
