Man Dies in Crane Accident

A man has died and a second is in a critical condition following an accident involving a crane on Merseyside.

The accident happened at Kirkby Industrial Estate, emergency services were called after reports that something was seen to fall from the crane.

The Health and Safety Executive are carrying out an investigation and Police Officers have cordoned off the Charley Wood Road area where they are interviewing witnesses.

One man aged in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene. The other man has been taken to Aintree hospital and is said to be in a critical condition.

The Health and Safety Executive has said that the incident involved a company called Stackright, which manufactures vandal proof site storage containers and site huts. The company is owned by the Metalrax group.

We have failed to confirm what type of crane was involved in the incident and the best we can determine is that the crane dropped its load.

We will report further when more details are available.
